Jason McGuire Files Libel Suit Against NY Attorney General Letitia James

Late last year, our friend Jason McGuire, the Executive Director of New York Families Foundation, was sentenced to eight weekends in jail as a result of political retribution over his conservative values. New York Attorney General Letitia James, who was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2025 for bank and real estate fraud, spearheaded a seven-year witch hunt into NYFF and Jason’s personal finances. The probe resulted in over 7,000 pages of subpoenaed documents, including demands for donor lists, sermon recordings, and private information about NYFF’s supporters (which they rightly refused to disclose).

The investigation yielded only three missing campaign finance receipts totaling less than $1,300 – a minor clerical error – but it was enough for the AG’s office to manufacture a case against Jason. Rather than spending an additional $250,000 to defend himself, Jason pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges. The judge sentenced him to 53 days in jail over the course of eight weekends, beginning on August 8, 2025.

AG Letitia James wasn’t content with this outcome. NYFF wrote:

Attorney General James was not satisfied with a plea deal; she wanted a headline. Her office released a false and defamatory press statement accusing Jason of stealing party funds for personal gain. That was a lie. To make matters worse, Attorney General James was quoted as saying that Jason had “abused his position in the New York Conservative Party to line his own pockets with party funds and cover up his theft.” This, too, was a lie. Each of these lies completely contradicted the plea agreement into which Jason had entered with the OAG. Jason’s attorney formally demanded a retraction; it never came. The media ran with Attorney General James’s narrative, smearing Jason’s name in the process.

Jason agreed to plead “guilty” to the 3 missing receipts, and the AG’s office falsely told the media that he pleaded guilty to stealing $16,000.

Watch the short documentary from NYFF sharing Jason’s side of the story:

After serving his jail time and enduring the repercussions of the Attorney General’s inaccurate and defamatory remarks, Jason and NYFF decided to formally file a libel suit against the NY AG’s office, seeking both compensatory and punitive damages for reputational harm.

“This lawsuit aims to correct the public record and hold those who make false statements that harm reputations accountable,” Jason explained. “The facts of this case matter, and they were misrepresented in a way that has caused lasting consequences.”

POLITICO reported:

McGuire last year pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of filing a false instrument stemming from $1,283.78 in transfers from the party’s committee. James’ office trumpeted the outcome in a press release that said McGuire failed to disclose “over $16,000” in transferred funds and used the money for clothes, restaurants and beauty treatments.

The suit alleges James’ office wrongly implied he confessed to stealing campaign funds and the attorney general’s public statements went far beyond the scope of the charges or plea. James’ office did not comment.

Pastor Justin Bleuer, New York Families Foundation Board Vice President, stated: “We believe the statements made about Jason McGuire were false and unfair. This legal action is a crucial step to ensure the truth is clearly established.”

Please keep Jason and his family in your prayers as he not only wages this legal battle, but also fights a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

“We are thankful for the hundreds—if not thousands—of friends, supporters, and prayer warriors who have been lifting us up before the Lord,” Jason and his wife Lorenne wrote. “Our trust is in a loving Heavenly Father. It did not take much to trust Him in easier times, but now we are learning to lean on Him in the harder ones as well. We remain confident that our good God’s grace will be sufficient for this challenge, as it has been for every one before.”

“My name is Jason McGuire. Some people know me as a lobbyist, as a political leader, as a pastor, or as a friend. To others, I am a son, a brother, a husband, or a father. Today, in the eyes of the state of New York, I am inmate 090198, locked down in Echo Block-4 for sixty hours in the Livingston County Jail. This is my first experience of incarceration.”
